Skinbooster-behandlinger: en trinnvis guide for klinikker i 2026

Skinboosters have become one of the most requested treatments across Norwegian aesthetic clinics in 2026. Whether you work with Restylane Vital, Juvederm Hydrate or Profhilo, the fundamentals of patient selection and injection technique remain the same.

What is a skinbooster?

Skinboosters are injectable hyaluronic acid products designed to improve skin hydration, elasticity and overall quality rather than add volume. They work by attracting and retaining water in the dermis, making the skin look and feel more supple and radiant.

Unlike traditional fillers, skinboosters are not about reshaping. The goal is biological — restoring the skin's own capacity to hold moisture, stimulate collagen production and improve texture from within.

Patient selection

Ideal candidates are patients who present with dull, dehydrated skin and early signs of aging. The treatment is suitable for most skin types and is particularly effective on the face, neck, décolletage and hands.

Good candidates typically describe their skin as looking tired regardless of sleep, or notice that their foundation no longer sits the way it used to. These are early signs of reduced dermal hydration — exactly what skinboosters address.

Patients to approach with caution

  • Active skin infections or inflammation in the treatment area
  • Known hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid
  • Autoimmune conditions affecting the skin
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Recent use of blood thinners or high-dose NSAIDs

When in doubt, a detailed intake form and a short medical history review before the appointment will save both you and the patient from unnecessary complications.

Product selection

Not all skinboosters behave the same way. The choice of product should be based on the patient's skin condition, treatment area and desired outcome.

Restylane Vital is a cross-linked HA product, which gives it slightly more structural support. It works well in areas that need a combination of hydration and mild lifting, such as the cheeks and jaw area.

Juvederm Hydrate has a lower viscosity and spreads more evenly. It is a reliable choice for the neck, décolletage and hands where skin is thinner and more delicate.

Profhilo is bio-remodelling rather than a traditional filler. It disperses through the tissue and stimulates collagen and elastin production. Results appear gradually over four to six weeks and tend to feel more natural than conventional skinboosters.

Protocol steps

01

Clean and disinfect the treatment area thoroughly. Remove all makeup and skincare residue before applying any topical product.

02

Apply topical anaesthetic cream 30 to 45 minutes before injection. The amount of discomfort varies significantly between patients and treatment areas.

03

Use a 30–32G needle and inject intradermally using a micro-papule technique. Each papule should be evenly spaced, typically 1 to 1.5 cm apart.

04

Massage gently after each injection to distribute the product evenly and prevent visible lumps at the injection site.

05

Document LOT number, expiry date and volume used in the patient file immediately after the procedure. This is required for traceability under Norwegian health regulations.

Aftercare instructions

Advise patients to avoid makeup, saunas, swimming pools and direct sun exposure for at least 24 hours after treatment. Mild redness, swelling or small bruises at injection points are normal and typically resolve within two to three days.

Patients should keep the treated area clean and avoid touching or massaging it unless specifically instructed (for example, the BAP protocol for Profhilo). Recommend gentle hydration and sunscreen use as the skin settles.

When to schedule the next session

Most skinbooster protocols are delivered as a course of two to three sessions spaced three to four weeks apart, followed by a maintenance session every four to six months depending on the product and the patient's skin condition.

Profhilo typically follows a two-session protocol one month apart, with a touch-up recommended at the six-month mark. Document the planned schedule in the patient file so follow-up bookings aren't missed.

Documentation checklist

  • Patient consent form signed and filed
  • Product name, LOT number and expiry date recorded
  • Volume used and injection sites documented
  • Before/after photos taken with patient consent
  • Next session date scheduled and confirmed with the patient
